There are a couple of ways to be invited as a guest on top podcasts. We’ll go over the most popular ways below.
1. Have an Existing Following
Getting booked as a guest on great shows is pretty straightforward if you've already got a large audience and tons to offer. These guests are usually the well-known figures who get invited on top shows to share their stories and knowledge.

Often, they've got their own podcasts too, and they'll engage in a practice called cross-hosting. Essentially, they'll interview the show host on their podcast as well. Hosts get to introduce their shows to new, similar audiences and grow their listener base.

But here's the problem - most founders, entrepreneurs, and executives don't fall into this category, which is exactly what I'm going to break down for you below.

2. Get Noticed by Hosts
So, what can you do to get interviewed on top podcasts when you don't already have a massive social following or your own show? Let me break it down for you.

First, start building a social presence if you haven't already - I can't stress how critical this is in 2024. Which platforms you choose and how much work it will take depends on your personal and business goals, but getting active is a must if you want to appear on top podcasts regularly.

Once you've started building out a social following, it's time to create your personal media packet (also called a personal pitch deck). Nothing fancy - just a simple document or page highlighting your past speaking experiences, personal audience metrics, areas of expertise, relevant accomplishments, and a bio about yourself.

Next comes strategy. While I won’t bore you with too many details - you'll want to think about your long-term brand goals, ideal target demographics, and which podcast niches have the most listeners in your target audience. I usually recommend making a list of 100-200 shows that best align with your goals to start.

Got all that ready? Time to start reaching out to those podcast hosts you identified previously. While I can’t recommend any one method as the best option to get in touch with hosts, I've found several ways that can work well - email, phone, text, DM’s, or through mutual connections. Share your media kit and tell them why you'd be a great fit for their show and audience. Then cross your fingers for an invite!

When a host does reply with an invitation (exciting stuff!), that's when you start prepping for the interview. There’s a lot that goes into this too, but I discuss preparation in much more detail Here.
